The inaugurations of the Dalaman Airport International Terminal and the Göcek Tunnel were realized by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on September 8, 2006. Besides the Prime Minister, the Minister of Transportation, Binali Yıldırım, and the Minister of Public Works and Settlement, Faruk Özak, were also present at the inauguration ceremonies.
At the speech he gave at the inauguration of the terminal which cost $150 million, Prime Minister Erdoğan remarked, "When we came, the number of tourists were around 7 million. This number increased by 300% to 21 million. If you consider that 70% of tourists who come to us use the airlines, the importance of the International terminal becomes clear.")
